The story tells the story of Levi (Lőb) Strauss' career, the birth of the blue jeans. The plot is personal, adventurous, emotional and dramatic, which is essentially true to the reality of the time, but with many fictional elements and characters. The play is picaresque in nature, but in addition to the problem of 'fitting in in a new country', it also witnesses a serious development of character: Lőb becomes Lévi Strauss, a man who is able to carry out his ideas with rigour, before our very eyes.
In the performance, beautiful melodies, pulsating rhythms and heartfelt klezmer music captivate the audience. The composers' intention was to create a klezmer musical that, after all the failures, is about the importance of trying again and again, the need to persevere, and moreover, the power of talent and imagination. The musical world is impressively varied, with country, Munich beer, contemporary musical numbers and duets based on Russian-German folk music.
Péter Müller's witty lyrics, the well-constructed story, the spectacular sets and costumes evoke the marketplace of a small German town, a street in New York, a terrifying boat trip near the Magellanic Cape and a gold-diggers' tavern in the mountains around San Francisco.
