Világfalu
◖ Folk music time-travel in the Bijagós Island world ◗

Schedule
In the third performance of Balázs Weyer's World Village Free University, we can take a very unique journey into a musical theme unknown to the world at large. The theme of the performance is the Bijagós archipelago off the coast of Guinea-Bissau. It is one of the last places where music can still be found in the same state as it was in the legendary African collections of the mid-20th century.
Because of the isolation of the archipelago, the way of life here has not changed much in recent centuries - contact with the mainland or the outside world in general is extremely limited, there is no electricity, no communication, no transport, and so archaic socio-cultural forms have persisted.
Balázs Weyer illustrates this world with photographs from his own collecting trips, which also contain a great deal of information about the past of human culture in general.
