Monteverdi: Orfeo in another way

2024-10-18T17:30:00.000Z

◖ Opera without singers ◗

A stunning Baroque opera in a minimalist yet emotionally rich and musically rich version - that's what Elina Albach and CONTINUUM offer.

"Reduce it to the maximum" - the musicians have reinterpreted the first opera in the history of music, Monteverdi's Orfeo, in the spirit of this motto. The opera is brought to life as an intimate concert narrative, a work of the imagination, leaving plenty of room for the audience's imagination and individual experiences.

The concert will be preceded by a discussion with Zsuzsanna Szálka, programme editor for classical and contemporary music.

19:50-21:30 Concert

An opera without singers? According to Elina Albach, "Monteverdi's music is so lyrical and so rhetorical, all the elements of opera are so much in the music itself that it is all possible."

The four baroque instrumentalists of the CONTINUUM ensemble (Elina Albach, Liam Byrne, Lambert Colson and Philipp Lamprecht) will perform the radically reduced music, accompanied by equally reduced text projections and visual elements by the graphic duo Happy Little Accidents. Rather than the theatrical splendour of opera, the performers focus on the immediacy and richness of chamber music.

The evening should bring exciting insights for those familiar with Monteverdi's work, but promises to be no less of an experience for those who will be encountering it for the first time in this reimagined version. As Elina Albach puts it, "the most important thing is that the audience experiences and enjoys the performance as it is being performed."
