Jacopo Peri: Euridice

Our performance is an exciting and forward-looking experiment between pedagogy, improvisation, experimental and high art. Musically, it is entirely historical: the performance material was prepared by János Bali through a thorough analysis of the sources, the text and the Hungarian translation are the work of another Pázmány professor, György Domokos, and the music academy students Judit Rajk and Orsika Tóth are the soloists, the continuo player and tutor is Dóra Pétery, a teacher at the Music Academy, the lute players are students of István Kónya, the choir was coached by Andrea Ney, the choreography is the work of Melinda Pétery. In the past decades János Bali has staged a number of minimalist modern and old operas with lightning arrangements, - in the case of Peri's Euridice the aim was to set the production flexibly, with a minimal environmental footprint, in as little time as possible, inspired by the circumstances, showing the exciting possibilities of the venue. From an attractive, fresh minimalism, a few striking elements create an expressive, cohesive and memorable production: a bridge between old music and modern visuals, academic theatre and historical performance with professional pretensions.
