Replika 133 issue launch
We welcome you to the Replika magazine's anniversary magazine and book launch event

Schedule
18:00 On the occasion of the Benjamin issue, we invite you to a discussion that will not only address the problems raised by the content of the issue, but also the problems raised by the issue itself and the way it is edited. We are thinking here primarily of the (Hungarian) reception history of Walter Benjamin's thought, the problem of translation, and the genre and methodological problems that Benjamin's writings pose for those who approach them. We would therefore like to discuss the problems that arise during the editing process, which, by their universality and their historical-methodological-philosophical nature, are of wider interest, in the hope of finding answers to our questions. It is important, however, that the questions raised in the discussion are not only accessible to experts: the aim of our discussion is also to create a forum for exploring Benjamin's ideas and works and the problems they raise, and we welcome those who would otherwise be deterred from participating by the complexity, opacity or lack of knowledge of these works.
20:00 In the autumn, French philosopher Didier Eribon's autobiographical work Return to Reims was published in Hungarian by Napvilág Publishers, in which the author tries to reflect on his own homosexuality, his disadvantaged social situation and the suffering that goes with it. In doing so, he also analyses his changing relationship with his past and his family. Eribon's book is a frank and nuanced confrontation with what has become established in contemporary literature as a social class shift, thanks to Édouard Louis and Nobel Prize winner Annie Ernaux. The translator of the book, Ágoston Fáber, is in conversation with Bence Horváth and Anna Ott, hosts of the podcast Not Bad Books.
