Kertész Street Shaxpeare- Wash
One of the goals of our performance is to capture the bizarre, dark, absurd, disgusting, grotesque, confusing, pathetic, shocking, alarming and contradictory aspects of today's Hungarian reality and the characters of the story through a reworking of a highly esteemed classic, and to present all of this to the audience in a form of poetic realism - whatever that means.
And for this reason, we have created scenes that are often very obscene, vulgar and full of expressions that are unprintable - but of course, as we know, they are very much a part of today's Hungarian reality - with great diligence and expertise. Our insight is indisputable. Our intentions are meticulously precise and profound.
There are: corpses and their freezing, bones, vomit, spitting, nudity, fights, adult film scenes, broken fingers, drug consumption and distribution, poison mixing, flag burning (no, that's not it), the word 'Jew' is used once, 'gypsy' once. There will be smoke, strobe lights, loud music, alarming sound effects, noise, chaos, dirt and litres of fake blood.That is why, on the advice of the theatre management, this is written as a quasi-justification on the terrace of the Ice Buffet on a sunny autumn day in September 2019.

Örkény István Theatre
The Örkény István Theatre is an independent repertory theatre and one of the most important theatres in the country. Örkény is primarily a prose drama theatre, but our theatre is open to a wide variety of genres. Our repertoire has included more than a hundred works, from antiquity to contemporary works. Regardless of genre, we see the meaning of our work in our choice of high literature, in our careful rehearsals, in our openness to public issues, in our love of humour, grotesque and the many shades of irony. Our ten-year-old theatre education programme was one of the first in Hungary to open up a new channel for active, community-building engagement with audiences.
