Layers of Space / Photo exhibition by Attila Pácser
He learned the basics of photography at the Buda Photo and Film Club, and then obtained a vocational qualification at the Industrial Vocational Training Institute No. 6 in Práter Street. He has been a freelance photographer since 1983. Through constant experimentation, he has developed the photographic sequence that still characterises his work today. Active participant in the alternative art scene of the 1980s and one of its main documenters. His creative work, influenced by André Kertész, is in sharp contrast to this, but he is also close to the photographs of Eugène Atget, August Sander, Richard Avedon and Irving Penn, and, among his contemporaries, the Düsseldorf School, associated with Bernd & Hilla Becher, and, within this, Thomas Struth, alongside the Hungarian András Baranyay.
The pictorial articulation of space and time in relation to each other, the representation of different layers, the expansion of the possibilities of the medium, still excites his imagination since the beginning of his involvement with photography in the 1970s. Most of the time he thinks in terms of series, initially in analogue, black and white, then in tinted images, and more recently digitally. Sometimes the chosen subject of the image is aroused by the exploration of space itself, its spatial relationships, its perceptible, almost scenic layers, and sometimes it is the process of image-making that unravels the layering that induces his series.

The series in the exhibition are either still lifes set in the studio, or captures of moments stolen or constructed in nature. In some of her premeditated compositions, light effects, not always predictable, often interfere, but she still keeps the sunlight, deflected by mirrors, under control before exposing. In others, chance creates extraordinary scenes - for example, the meeting of fast and slow movement in the picture space creates a ghostly image with magical effects, or the interaction between the fixed frame of a train window and the passing landscape creates contrast. The intimate, lyrical moods he conveys are as characteristic of his paintings as the presence of humour. Visitors to our exhibition can discover the dazzling world in which simple things and everyday objects can become magical with the help of photographer Attila Pácser's vision.
