Chihiro, a stubborn 10-year-old girl, is convinced that the whole world revolves around her - which is why she cannot accept moving to a new city with her parents, and does not even try to hide her disappointment during the journey. Lost in the woods, the small family finds themselves at the end of a strange dead-end road, and at the other end of a dark tunnel, a ghost town welcomes them.

The empty streets are littered with tables laden with a princely feast: the hungry parents are eager to feast on the delicious food, but soon turn into pigs when the real dinner guests turn up in town. The inhabitants of this secluded fairytale world are ancient gods and other wondrous creatures, ruled by Yubaba, the evil witch. Chihiro can only save his parents by making himself useful in Spirit Land and finding work in the witch's vast bathhouse.
