Charles Gounod: FAUST
2025-03-29T17:00:00.000Z - 2025-04-12T20:00:00.000Z
Opera in five acts, in French, with Hungarian, English and French subtitles
Length of performance: 3 hours 50 minutes, with 2 intermissions.
For over a hundred years, Gounod's French grand opera has been an essential part of the repertoire of any self-respecting opera company, and it remains one of the most frequently performed operas to this day. The composer's aim was not to adapt Goethe's masterpiece for the operatic stage. From a libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré, a perfumed, smoky drama with romanticism, horror and Gothic motifs was born; a story of romance, temptation, the eternal battle between religion and the forces of Satan.
