Every year, Kijárat Publishers publishes some of the most curious and exciting works in the field of cultural studies in Hungary. At the end of February, they're bringing a double volume launch to Raven again, and this time it's all about late modern Hungarian literature and Miklós Mészöly.

SZÁZ ÉV UTÁN MÉSZÖLY MIKLÓSRÓL (ed. Anita Káli, Pál Kelemen, Diána Márjánovics, Melinda Vásári)
This volume is a selection of writings produced on the occasion of the Mészöly centenary and afterwards. It traces the many facets and complexities of Mészöly's oeuvre, thus providing a tabloid of the current state of the renewed reception of Mészöly. In the spirit of Mészöly's diversity, the texts here represent a variety of discursive genres, from podium discussion, narratological interpretation, comparative analysis, philological commentary, and personal essays and reports to the presentation of the results of digital text processing. The collected essays reveal, among other things, how contemporary literature engages in a dialogue with Mészöly's works and how Mészöly's texts expose current philosophical, social and worldview phenomena and problems in the age of ecological crisis, thus offering fertile reading material for recent theorizing. We also gain an insight into Mészöly's philology, which increasingly extends to the co-arts: film, theatre and graphics.

OSZTROLUCZKY SAROLTA: KORSZAKMETSZETEK
The analytical essays in this volume deal with selected works from late modern and recent Hungarian literature, their poetic constellations, genre and influence-historical contexts and intertextual connections. In the section on lyrical works, several chapters deal with the poetry of Attila József, whose influence can be traced in the poems of Gábor Karinthy, Sándor Weöres, Ágnes Nemes Nagy, Magda Szabó, Ottó Orbán, Lajos Parti Nagy, András Ferenc Kovács and Krisztina Tóth. Another "intersectional" oeuvre is that of Ágnes Nemes Nagy, whose objective lyricism interacts on the pages of the volume with the poems of Mihály Babits, Magda Szabó and Dezső Tandori, as well as with the landscape poetry of Miklós Mészöly or Ákos Győrffy. The chapters analysing prose works are interpretations of works by László Németh, Géza Ottlik, Iván Mándy and Péter Hajnóczy. In addition to the narratological, genre, motivic and chronotopic analysis of the texts, the figures of consciousness, irony and intertextuality are also presented as important factors of influence in these interpretations. The volume examines the lyrical and prose text sections of Hungarian literature of approximately seventy years - from the second half of the 1920s to the turn of the millennium - and, taking into account the intertextual network of the works, of more than one hundred years - from 1910 to 2015 - in order to reveal the intersections of literary historical epochs in constant dialogue with each other, and the common clusters of continuity of tradition.
