The central motif of Ádám Dóra's paintings is the interest of Western societies in consumerism. She delights in transforming her grotesque, comic figurative paintings into exaggerated expressions through form and colour. By taking our everyday objects out of context and reflecting on phenomena in popular culture, he elevates them to the level of fine art. He does this with classical painterly problems, but with a playful imagery and an exaggerated, loose, abstract style. The works on show in Fast Lane to Happiness are a selection of recent painting cycles exploring the themes of fast food. Through abstract but still-life-like depictions of hamburgers, fries and slices of pizza, the artist provides us with meaningful insights into the eating and consumption habits of the time, as in other periods of art. But also making his debut in this exhibition are his paintings of suitcases, sunglasses and sandy beaches, conceived around the idea of travel and tourism, which shed light on an aspect of the unreflected cultural consumption of Western society through art.
