"On this song, I've been a little bit immersed in my own philosophy of life," says frontman and lyricist Ryan Guldemond of the song. "Magical thinking, interconnectedness, cosmic adventure". The imaginative Make Believe is just the first taste of what's to come on the Nostalgia album, a creative palette that is both diverse yet unified, typical of Mother Mother. Coming on the heels of the success of 2024's Grief Chapter, the album simultaneously cultivates the spirit of creativity and complete originality that fans have come to know and love about the band, while taking musicality, lyricism and aesthetics to new heights. Heartfelt and dark, themes of alienation, existentialism, self-love and self-loathing, gender roles and spirituality are explored in funnel-like and fragmented ways through vibrant imagery of otherworldly landscapes and mythical creatures.

"When creating Nostaglia, our goal was to embody the childlike creativity that often becomes elusive as we get older and take on too much familiarity," explains Guldemond, adding that emotional cohesion was important in the album-making process. "Every creative decision was considered on emotion - whether it was a lyric, a reverb track or an EQ curve. - If something didn't evoke a strong emotional response, we let it go. This approach has led to an end result that we truly love and are proud of." With the creation of their tenth studio album, Mother Mother has experienced complete freedom of creativity, resulting in an album that is both true to their heritage and a gesture towards the next two decades. Following the release of Nostalgia, Mother Mother will embark on a European tour, coming to the Akvárium Klub on 1 July, where they will be performing the songs from the new album alongside classics such as Hayloft and It's Allright.

Location

Akvárium

As they describe themselves, it is Budapest's most frequented venue, which is also multifunctional. Akvárium is great for award ceremonies, afternoon coffees and, most importantly, concerts, thanks to the well-picked, cross-genre selection.
