"In The Conspirators of Pleasure, the pleasure principle guides all the characters. In the spirit of this pleasure principle, the characters regularly violate and mock the forms of behaviour prescribed by society, their behaviour characterised by sensuality fused with overflowing fantasy and symbolic rituals. The grotesque character is only apparent in the story and the situations, the acting is simply realistic. Irrespective of the actors' intentions, a 'black' or, in surrealist terms, 'objective' humour prevails, almost involuntarily. The total and uninfluenced devotion with which the characters indulge their passions is never overplayed by the actors in order to emphasise the bizarre... Magic plays a key role in the story and, as is often the case, it works and it doesn't. But modern man has nothing to do with magic, and the most varied manifestations of civilisation influence and modify the effects of magic..." (Jan Svankmajer)
A film without dialogue.
