📖 In a sinister town in a sinister age, Giselle, a historian and associate professor at the New University, and Dr Kreutzer, a psychiatrist and nationally renowned expert on poverty, find themselves in a clash. In the spring storm, Albert, an institutionalized boy who has been following her for weeks, turns up looking for his roots, and the psychiatrist's elderly mother dies unexpectedly. During therapy, Giselle is immersed in her family's history because of the unknown boy, and Dr. Kreutzer relives his own as he discards his mother's estate.
Krisztina Tóth's intricate novel reveals lives that barely intersect: the stories of women and men, wives and husbands, mothers and fathers, as power and its machinery work ceaselessly to bury the past. But sometimes the constraints and compulsions, distortions and distortions lead to cataclysms for all.
The monkey's eye seeks out and captures the moment of awakening with the excitement of a crime thriller, with pinpoint observations, compassion and humour.
