What drives a young, newly qualified teacher—or a seasoned educator with decades of experience—to leave the profession? And what keeps someone going, even under today’s challenging circumstances?
Can we imagine a world where education is truly the focus—not daily hardships, not the weight of moral dilemmas, not the pressure of public opinion? What would it take, and who will make it happen?
In this performance, we navigate through different spaces of a Budapest school, meeting teachers who have left and those who have stayed, along with their diverse stories. We hear urban and rural life narratives—from elementary schools, vocational training centers, and elite high schools—all deeply personal yet universally recognizable fragments of a systemic issue. The journey culminates in a fictional, extraordinary school year closing ceremony that takes an unexpected turn.
STEREO AKT’s documentary-style performance does not aim to take a stance on whether to stay or go—it invites collective reflection based on lived experience. It explores survival strategies and possibilities for resistance.
We see, know, and feel what divides us.
But what unites us?
How can we remain free and true to ourselves within a centralized and oppressive (educational) system?
And how can we begin to build one of the most essential things: our own future?

John Wesley Kindergarten, Primary School and High School
Since the 2007/2008 school year, the John Wesley Kindergarten, Primary School and High School has been maintained and operated by the Hungarian Evangelical Fellowship. According to our pedagogical program, our institution fulfills a highly important role as an inclusive school. Education takes place in small class sizes, where children in need of individual support receive personalized attention from development teachers and special education professionals. Our work is also supported by a social worker and a teaching assistant.
