This is the third film in the oeuvre of Canadian director Xavier Dolan, who started out as a child prodigy and is still only 34 years old, but has already made seven major feature films. The protagonist, Laurence, is in a happy relationship, but at the age of 35, the realisation dawns on him with irrefutable clarity that he is in fact a woman who has mistakenly been wearing a man's body and has lived his life accordingly, apparently by mistake. It is a lesson in love and social tolerance, a gender drama that is at once lead-heavy and light as a feather, a colourful, pop, life-affirming course in sensitivity.
