Dance, Music, and Architecture in Turn-of-the-Century Paris | Lecture by Júlia Katona, Art Historian

One of the central objects in the exhibition The Art of Life is a table lamp by Parisian sculptor Raoul François Larche, depicting Loui Fuller, the famous American dancer of the era. This piece is part of the Hungarian Museum of Applied Arts’ Metalwork Collection. The artwork captures the characteristic swirling movements of Fuller’s performances. While she gained fame in America for her dazzling stage appearances, the French adored her so much that she eventually moved to Paris, where she became a regular performer at the famous cabaret, the Folies Bergère.

Using this object as a starting point, Júlia Katona, art historian and staff member of the Museum of Applied Arts, will explore the diverse world of dance and music in turn-of-the-century Paris and the venues where these performances took place.
