BLACK WHITE BLUE GREEN RED is a retrospective film journey through the life's work of Éva Köves, a sensitive painter, reflecting the cultural and social transformations of Hungary after the fall of communism.

After graduating in 1989, she entered a new chapter in her life – this personal turning point also marked the beginning of the transformation of social structures. Éva Köves' art and career reflect the hopes, illusions, and dilemmas of the 1990s, revealing the fragile balance between historical and human change.

Éva Köves was born in Moscow in 1965. Between 1979 and 1983, she studied painting at the Secondary School of Fine and Applied Arts in Budapest, then between 1984 and 1988 she studied at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, where she also received postgraduate training. Between 1989 and 1992, she received the Derkovits scholarship, which was established to promote the work of young talents. She has participated in numerous international exhibitions and scholarship programs, and in 1997, she represented Hungary at the Venice Biennale together with Róza El-Hassan and Judit Hersko. As a leading member of the 1990s generation of painters, he seeks new possibilities for classical painting in terms of both form and media. He became known for his small and medium-sized paintings, which are close to monochrome, and then, starting with his work Falfestmény (Wall Painting), presented at the Ludwig Museum in 1993, his interest shifted to geometric imagery filtered through the lessons of conceptual art, which he combines with a high degree of painterliness. Painting installations, the built, urban, and natural environments, and the simultaneity of outside and inside have become central themes in his works. During his long collaboration with Andrea Sztojánovits, the use of projection and animation to animate his paintings points to an increasingly strong presence of intermediality in his approach. He lives and works in Budapest.
