OFF 2027 opening day

With the completion of the fifth edition of the OFF-Biennale and the experience of the organization’s ten years of operation, preparations for the 2027 edition have started. As one of the first steps to this, we organize a professional and community event, where together we map the current operational framework, challenges and possible development directions of the domestic and regional independent, self-organizing contemporary art ecosystem. We are also thinking with the participating cultural organizations and their representatives about how it is worth working together to increase the visibility and social relevance of the critical, progressive art scene.

💥 Why now?

Since 2015, the OFF has used different organizational and operational models.

In the current situation of the cultural sector –, characterized by growing scarcity of resources, institutional shortcomings, fragmentation of the civil sphere and uncertainty of long-term planning –, we are now returning to the mission of our first biennial:

we want to bring together and amplify the energies of the independent contemporary art scene.

All this by giving space to the projects of independent artists, art professionals, groups and organizations, dialogue, free creation, collaboration, each other's retention. Our goal is to promote the international connections of the Hungarian art-professional medium and to bring independent art to a wider audience.
