"Not so that everyone can be an artist, but so that no one is a slave."* - Exhibition and series of programs on the relationship between art education and critical pedagogy
The exhibition is open from March 5 to April 1, 2026.
The Kesztyűgyár Gallery, in collaboration with the Pirosfecske Pedagogical Collective, is organizing an exhibition and series of programs focusing on the relationship between art education and critical pedagogy.
The program is a continuation of the joint reflection that began with the Collective in the fall of 2024, when a school experiment in Szentlőrinc in the 1970s and the history of a work school in Budapest were presented in the space, and the workshops were based on these.
This year, through the lens of critical pedagogy, we will look at historical examples and best practices from the borderlands of art and pedagogy that are rarely featured in teacher training programs or have been somewhat forgotten, but which can still be inspiring.
The exhibition is based on sources that form the basis of our collective thinking, which can be continuously supplemented by the dialogues and discussions that take place at our events.
Planned programs:
March 5 - Exhibition opening and discussion
March 13 - Film screening and workshop - We will screen Ignacio Agüero's documentary film One Hundred Children Waiting for the Train (1988). The film is about Alicia Vega's Chilean film education program, which she developed for marginalized children during the Pinochet dictatorship.
March 19 - Closed workshop for visual arts students
March 26 - Roundtable discussion and screening on participatory filmmaking methodology
April 1 - Closing workshop with Pirosfecske
The exhibition can be viewed during the opening hours of the Kesztyűgyár Community Center, but it is advisable to notify the reception desk in advance so that they can open the space.
We will also create separate events for the programs, where we will indicate if registration is required to participate.

Kesztyűgyár Gallery
A budapesti Józsefváros Magdolna negyedében található önkormányzati fenntartású Kesztyűgyár Közösségi Ház 2008 őszén nyitotta meg kapuit. Az elnevezés a tervező-alapító Rév8 Zrt. által adott fantázianév, amely a ház korábbi funkciójára utal, ugyanis az épület egykoron kisebb ipari létesítményként különböző műhelyeknek adott otthont. A Közösségi Ház elsődleges küldetése a Magdolna negyedben élő családoknak, közösségeknek lehetőséget biztosítani a tartalmas kikapcsolódáshoz, tanuláshoz, valamint kulturált szórakozáshoz. A megvalósuló programokon keresztül célunk a helyi identitás erősítése, mikroközösségek létrejöttének katalizálása, és megtartó erejük növelése. Aktív szereplőként részt vállalunk Józsefváros szociális, kulturális és fenntarthatósági stratégiájának megvalósításában. A közösségi házban szívesen adunk helyet civil szervezeteknek, különböző szakmai programoknak, workshopoknak és fórumoknak. Az épület erőssége, hogy teljes mértékben akadálymentes, minden termünk könnyedén megközelíthető, akár kerekesszékkel is. Változatos programkínálatunkkal szeretnénk hozzájárulni ahhoz, hogy a Kesztyűgyár által a józsefvárosi Mátyás tér apró, ámde üde, érdekes színfoltjává váljon Budapest közösségi-kulturális életének.
