Frodo (Elijah Wood), a young hobbit, receives a ring from Bilbo, which turns out to be the One Ring, with which the Lord of Darkness can enslave the peoples of Middle-earth. Gandalf (Ian McKellen) sends Frodo to Rivendell, where Elrond, the wisest leader of the elves, decides the fate of the ring. There is no other option; the ring must be destroyed in Mordor, in the Crater of Doom. At the Council of the Free Peoples, the Fellowship is renewed, and under Gandalf’s leadership, Frodo and his companions—Aragorn the Dúnadan (Viggo Mortensen), the elf Legolas (Orlando Bloom), Gimli the dwarf (John Rhys-Davies), and Boromir, representing Men—set out on their hopeless mission. The future depends on the fate of the Fellowship.
