The plot of this charming, kind, humorous, romantic play begins in a country castle, where Rózsika is preparing for their fifth wedding anniversary. Everything must happen as it did back then, at the dawn of their love. But of course, nothing will be as the beautiful “little lady” planned. The beautiful dress, the wonderful dinner, the Hungarian songs of the famous gypsy prima donna are in vain. Sándor has been fooled by the new jazz and his new acquaintance, the seductive high society lady, Countess Caligari. This is the reason why Sándor does not spend the evening with his young wife, but travels to Pest, to the Ritz Hotel, towards new adventures. Rózsika also follows him secretly to win her husband back, and…
Love, jealousy, intrigues, disappointments, but at the same time humor, forgiveness, friendship, hope and even more love.
The “broken violin” also has a symbolic meaning, it means broken hearts, and also whether Hungarian traditions and values can be exchanged for new morals and new cultural trends. The special thing about the play is that Zerkovitz mixed the melodies of the popular Hungarian song with the jazz sound and the humorous, spicy world of Pest couplets. Of course, this play is a pure comedy, full of lovable, funny characters, catchy melodies, lively dances, imposing sets, impressive, period-accurate costumes, so it is clear that “all’s well that ends well!”
