Feslett Filmklub: Kenneth Anger Night

The Feslett Filmclub is a free Sunday evening event that offers the chance to watch obscure, rarely or never seen, difficult or impossible to access cinematic gems.

This Thursday, a screening will be held in memory of Kenneth Anger, the recently deceased genius of occult, spiritual and magical cinema.

"Kenneth Anger's films, his personality, his special connection to the magical tradition, pop icons and gay subculture, give him a special place in the occult underground of the twentieth century. The camera has become a unique magical tool in Anger's hands; it has brought a unique vision that is stylistically renewed in each of his works. Drawing on the magical work of Aleister Crowley, his films offer a unique way of representing the visual world of magical experience, drawing on his almost religious symbolism. His works are, as their author admits, invocations, magical readings, through which he brings the viewer to enlightenment. His direct influence can be seen in the work of filmmakers, visual artists, video directors, multimedia artists and photographers such as Derek Jarman, Chris Cunningham, Martin Scorsese, Matthew Barney, Robert Mapplethorpe, Andy Warhol, R. W. Fassbinder, Genesis P-Orridge, David Lynch, Nagisa Oshima, Quentin Tarantino, Stanley Kubrick, Francis Ford Coppola, John Waters, Peter Greenaway, Todd Haynes, Bill Viola, Marie-Jo Lafontaine, Nagisa Oshima, Mor Navón and Julian Moguillansky, Werner Schroeter and Gábor Bódy", wrote Péter Kecskés in Filmwelt.
