Set in 1970s and 1980s America, we follow the story of five murders of serial killer Jack (Matt Dillon). A man of remarkable intelligence, Jack himself tells us about the atrocities he has committed over the course of twelve years, chosen at random, and the stages of his rise to serial killer status. In between episodes, his companion in conversation is Verge, or Virgil (Bruno Ganz), a reference to the poet who guided the author to Hell in Dante's Divine Comedy.
