Stairway seminar - What is a family album about?

2023-11-09T15:00:00.000Z

The photo album of Marika Radó-Walter (the daughter of the former opera singer), which was sent to the museum by her children, played an important role in the research of the history of the Walter Rózsi villa and the creation of the current exhibition. For them a family heirloom, for us a source of research.

How does a professional approach such a personal subject with the tools of science? The aim of the Stepping Stones Seminar is to bring museum professionals and their visitors closer together, to create a discourse on each topic, and thus to gain a better understanding of the theme of the year. The theme for 2023, which will be repeated every year, is HOSPITALITY.

A concept that at first glance seems ordinary, each time it reveals a new side through the objects of each museum, making it worth joining the programmes of the different institutions.

The object chosen for the Walter Rózsi-villa talk will be a photo album by Marika Radó-Walter, which is interesting because it was not brought to the museum in tangible form, but only digitalised. As a family heirloom and treasure, it is natural that the album, although an important resource for researchers, belongs to its owner in Buenos Aires. But physical distance should not prevent us from discussing the accessibility of personal objects in the context of digitised photographs.
