After a run-in with some Norwegian researchers, members of the American Antarctic Research Station adopt a sled dog. However, the adopted dog undergoes a horrific transformation, as an alien organism has moved into its body. An exploratory team goes to the neighbouring Norwegian site, where, among the ruins and dead bodies, the Americans find a wrecked spaceship dug out of the ice. It becomes apparent that when the craft was brought to the surface, its occupant was unleashed and capable of assuming any shape. As the cold polar winter sets in, terror grips the American base...
