Will Hunting is only twenty years old, but he is already out of the harsh working-class neighborhood of South Boston. Like his friends, he cries when he’s not hanging in the local bar or engaged in conflict with the law. He never went to college, at least as a caregiver to wash the floor. Still, it recalls vague historical references from its photographic memory and almost immediately solves math examples that confuse Nobel Prize-winning professors.

The only thing this astonishingly intelligent and incredibly angry young man can’t do is get rid of his expected prison sentence after another bar fight. His only hope is that Sean McGuire, a university professor, will become a psychologist who admires the boy’s emotional struggles and understands what it feels like when a man’s life is a constant struggle.
