Fortuna vendégei
In the monthly Dokreál film club, we bring a selection of outstanding documentaries about social issues and universal human stories to Gólya. After the screenings, we open the floor for dialogue to discuss the topics of the films with the audience and guests. We also take time to examine the documentary format with a critical approach.

The screening is SORT OF English-friendly! The language of the film is mostly English, with some Slovak, but that is only translated to Hungarian. So be prepared for this.

PAYING A VISIT TO FORTUNA
directed by: Mátyás Kálmán | Hungary I 2022 | 74 min I Hungarian language, English subtitles
Paying a Visit to Fortuna (premiered at Sarajevo IFF, FIPRESCI award winner at ZagrebDox) is following the unique story of a lottery winner couple. Anikó and Laci lived in deep poverty in a small town in Hungary until they won the lottery in 2013. Suddenly, their dreams of luxury become a reality as they move into a new house with a pool and a garden and hire a driver. For Anikó, who suffers from panic disorder and almost never left her flat for 25 years, the jackpot provides a newfound sense of power and purpose. She sees it as an opportunity to invest and start her own business, while Laci simply wants to enjoy the luxury of not working and travel the world.
But as they adjust to their new life, their relationship becomes strained. Laci's past struggles with alcoholism resurface, threatening to tear them apart. This intimate documentary follows their journey as they navigate the ups and downs of their newfound wealth and try to find the balance in their relationship. Will they be able to overcome the obstacles that threaten to tear them apart?

The screening is supported by Gólya and Kinedok Hungary.
The admission is free, but we appreciate a small financial support.
We are looking forward to seeing you!
