Silence in the City

The exhibition by Orsolya Góra, painter, and Emese Somogyi, sculptor, reflects on different aspects of urban life through paintings and sculptures.

Orsolya Góra, painter, and Emese Somogyi, sculptor, have been friends and collaborators for more than two decades. They both graduated from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts at the turn of the millennium and are currently working as MMA scholarship holders, mainly in and around Budapest. From time to time they participate in joint exhibitions and projects. The path is common, but the language of form and expression mark out individual paths. Orsolya Góra is primarily interested in colour and explores different colour theories in her work. In her threshold paintings of colour harmony, in addition to nature, fragments of the metropolis, especially Budapest, and the built environment appear. The landscape, however, often serves only as a pretext for the unfolding of colour.

As a sculptor, Emesé Somogyi is primarily interested in the structures of the material. Her new works include wood reliefs and spatial installations composed of waste wood. For this she uses an ancient Japanese wood-conservation technique called shousugiban. The dark-based works feature a small colourful space-box that brings colour to the drab everyday life of our hectic lives.
