Oak trees have played a significant role in European culture for thousands of years, they have been revered and are revered as the tree of the gods by many peoples, and their majestic appearance, furrowed bark, characteristic leaves and canopy give them a special place in the hearts of nature lovers in our country. Hikers may not realise that oaks provide a habitat for so many animals. Its trunk and branches are home to squirrels, birds and beetles, and its roots are home to mice and fungi. Its fruit provides food, and the surrounding undergrowth provides roosts for passing wild boars, hedgehogs and foxes. The tree is the survival of many animals, its canopy providing protection from inclement weather and predators. The oak protects and gives, becoming the central figure of the forest.
In Laurent Charbonnier and Michel Seydoux's nature film, dreamed up for the big screen, we get an insight into the everyday life of an oak tree, with incredible footage of the colourful wildlife we don't see on the tourist trail. Premiering at the Berlin International Film Festival, The Oak - Heart of the Forest follows the life of this lonely giant over several seasons and reminds us of the wonders of nature
