The Fashion & City exhibition not only shows the stages in the city's development, but also how fashion has shaped and reflected the social and cultural changes of each era, and the role it has played in shaping the city's identity.
The exhibition spans the period from 1873 to 2023 and includes around 250 objects that recall how fashion and metropolitan life have intertwined over the years.
Historical and political events, technological developments, changes in lifestyle and the evolution of fashion are all reflected in the pieces on display. More than 120 complete costumes, fashion accessories, documents and other unique objects evoke different periods of the past in the fascinating Baroque ruins of the Kiscelli Museum.

Kiscelli Museum
The Kiscelli Museum and its 15 hectares of parkland are located in the 3rd district of Budapest, between Óbuda and Remetehegy. The 18th century Baroque church and Trinitarian monastery, built by the Zichy family, was used as a barracks by the army in the 19th century. In 1910 it became the property of furniture manufacturer Miksa Schmidt, who later had it converted into a castle, hence the name Schmidt Castle. It is now home to the Budapest History Museum's collection of Modern Urban History and the Budapest City Gallery, the fine arts collection.
