Holocaust Memorial Day - Son of Saul

In the Nazi concentration camps, the Sonderkommando of prisoners herded those condemned to extermination into the gas chambers, transferred the bodies to the crematoria, cleaned the chambers before the next transport arrived and transported the ashes out of the camp. Because of the strenuous physical labour, the Sondereros were treated better than the other prisoners in the camp, living separately from the rest of the camp, but as the "keepers of the secrets", they were executed after a few months. The first task of the newly formed Sonderkommando was to burn the previous generation. Very few of the Sonderes survived the war. 1944, Auschwitz-Birkenau. Saul Ausländer (Géza Röhrig) is one of the Sonderkommandos working in the crematoria. His comrades, knowing that they could be executed at any moment, gather weapons and organise a revolt. But Saul discovers his own son among the corpses waiting to be burned, and instead of fleeing, he is driven by another impossible mission: to smuggle the body out and find a rabbi to give the child a dignified burial.
