Travel-performance from Colombia

I am Zsófia Jozifek, one of the founders of AppArtMan LakáSzínház [AppArtMan House Theatre - a community arts’ project in Budapest ongoing since 2015]. In May 2022 I boarded a flight from Madrid to Bogotá, only knowing a few details about my next 90 days, exploring Colombia as a solo female backpacker.

I walked alone for weeks along the Caribbean coast, wandered around Capurganá, volunteered in Santander, joined other travelers to hike up to the peaks of Cocuy, and discovered the neighborhoods of Bogotá. Heading south-west, I visited various mountains in the Andes, looking for beauty and magic, which surrounded me all along.

I was present during the elections, and then the change of government, gaining insight into locals’ related emotions and opinions. Most of the time I was contributing to local initiatives as a volunteer, I visited schools, replanted experimental rainforests, activist meetings, theatre rehearsals, university classes, women's circles, healing places, worked in a glamping, a hostel, and held workshops for people with schizophrenia.

Day-to-day, many people contributed to my journey, told their stories, offered me coffee, their homes, or shared their time and views with me.

I honor them and the road by telling my Colombian story through literary texts I wrote during long rainy evenings, the pictures I took being inspired, songs I collected on never-ending night-bus rides, and all the emotions that kept covering me as a raincoat.

In this performance the traveler gently guides the listener to discover and get lost in the unknown, to then find themselves again, engaged in the magic of Colombian surrealism, rhythms, landscapes, forests, skies and the Mirada of the people. "Le cuento el milagro, pero no el santo."

Musical accompaniment is provided by Réka Tóth Bernát, singer, songwriter, musician.

To the selection of pictures Bianka Rostás contributed with her expertise.

The performance is 2x45 minutes long with a break in the middle.

Special thanks to: Tímea Udvari-Kardos, János Vázsonyi, Gábor Mészáros.

Location

MANYI

Se nem foglaltház, se nem romkocsma, de mindenképpen olyan közösségi tér és kultúrgócpont, ami olyan egykori történelmi helyek hagyományát viszi tovább, mint a Kultiplex vagy a West Balkán.
