Great Chinese New Year Concert
Returning to Europe's top concert stages for the 2024 Chinese Lunar New Year as a joint production with the China National Traditional Orchestra will be Wu Promotion's signature project ‘The Grand Chinese New Year Concert', here to ring in and celebrate the Year of the Dragon 2024 with traditional Chinese music. One of the stops for this massive production's two-week European tour is Müpa Budapest, where we will get to hear the sounds of China's most ancient musical instruments, the bianzhong and bianqing, as well as witness some innovative fusion of traditional Chinese music with Western sounds.

Schedule
The 17-day European tour of the China National Traditional Orchestra includes a visit to Budapest: this ensemble collects, arranges and performs their country's most outstanding traditional and contemporary works with the aim of promoting Chinese music and culture. At this concert welcoming the Year of the Dragon 2024, we can also learn about truly ancient instruments such as the millennia-old bianzhong, constructed of a set of bronze bells of different pitches strung on a wooden frame. The musician can play melodies by striking them with a wooden mallet or stick. Also a percussion instrument, the bianqing features flat L-shaped stone bells instead of the more traditional bells. Both instruments were important to Chinese ritual and court music even in ancient times - and now we can hear them, among many others, on the stage at Müpa Budapest.
