Schedule

Trumpet player and composer Lőrinc Barabás has been a key player and driving force in the improvisational music scene in Budapest for nearly two decades. His various formations and improvisational club nights take him to the frontiers of jazz, electronic and neo-classical music.

His latest album, "22", released at the end of 2023, shows a new face: compared to his previous solo album, the piano is more prominent, and there are several compositions that no longer feature a trumpet at all. Although there is some improvisation, it has little to do with jazz: the minimalist, repetitive pieces are close in spirit to the neoclassical movement of Nils Frahm and Ólafur Arnalds.

According to Lőrinc Barabás, the melancholic, film music-like tracks express the need to slow down and turn inwards in a world that is speeding up. The world-famous Japanese jazz trumpeter Takuya Kuroda wrote of "22": "There are beautiful melodies on the album. Wonderful compositions with great building themes. Super, soulful playing on both piano and trumpet." According to the Recorder music blog, "it's a slow and patient album, but it's not really hard to get into the rhythm, and then it's very impressive in its own unobtrusive way".

The new album is now available to listen and download from Bandcamp, is out on CD and will be available from streaming providers soon.
