Bence Brasch: Whale

Bonifác Bokor, a writer approaching thirty, shares his life's work with the theatre director with whom he has been willing to talk again for a few months. But the work does not have the desired effect, as director Molnár expects a light, entertaining musical. Bonifác refuses to go against his own tastes and ideas, and in an interview he jokes that he is writing a musical about a whale. Unfortunately, this appeals to the director, who persuades him to write a musical about a whale with his persuasive style and some money.

Every audience member is interested in what goes on behind the scenes. How is a show produced? What kind of work does it take to make the audience laugh or cry with sympathy? Who is the man behind the scenes? Who am I? Who are you? Do we need to know the answer? Is love for me what love is for the other? Is it important to know what others think of me? But if it is not important, how do I respect boundaries?

These are the questions we seek to answer in a performance in which dynamic, secret theatrical scenes, from harmonious melodies to raw recitativo duets, build a bridge to the audience. And if the viewer is brave enough, they may experience both the happy and anxious moments of theatremaking.
