On Sunday evenings, you can watch obscure, rarely or nowhere seen, difficult or impossible to access cinematic gems for free.

Last week, we screened Brady Corbet's debut feature, Childhood of a Leader, and this week the director's next feature hits the big screen.

Vox Lux is a bitter vision of showbiz, the bizarre story of a woman who turns to pop culture as a result of a childhood trauma - a school shooting - and then becomes a major success in a kind of self-medicating urge. The protagonist, modelled in some ways on the phenomenon of Lady Gaga - and to some extent Madonna - is played by Raffey Cassidy as an adolescent and Natalie Portman as an adult, with Jude Law and Stacy Martin in Lars Von Trier's Nymfomania, and Williem Dafoe as narrator.

The director Brady Corbet started his career as an actor, and among his many notable credits, he starred in Lars Von Trier's Melancholia and was one of the leads in Michael Haneke's Funny Games (the American version).
