THE WILD PLANET

(La Planète sauvage – in original voice with Hungarian subtitles)

colour, subtitled, French-Czechoslovak animated film, 72’, 1973

written and directed by: René Laloux

cast (voices): Jennifer Drake, Eric Baugin

***Not recommended for children under 12.***

The story is set on the planet Ygam, which is ruled by the technologically advanced giants known as the ‘Draag’. Their aim is to exterminate the ‘Om’, whom they regard as stupid, parasitic humans. The film follows the journey of Terr (an Om), who is kept as a pet, as he escapes from the Draags and leads a group of human rebels. The story serves as a kind of analogy for the Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia.
