Jure Pukl is one of the most prominent saxophonists on today’s jazz scene and is among the few musicians who have naturally built a bridge between the European and New York jazz scenes over the past two decades. Born in Slovenia, he studied at the conservatories in Vienna and The Hague before attending Berklee College of Music, where he studied under Joe Lovano and George Garzone, among others. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with artists such as Vijay Iyer, Charles Lloyd, Melissa Aldana, Peter Evans, and Nasheet Waits. His playing is instantly recognizable thanks to his comprehensive knowledge of modern jazz traditions, his distinctive tone, and a unique balance of compositional thinking.
His partners are leading figures at the forefront of contemporary American jazz. Joe Sanders is one of the most sought-after double bassists of his generation, having become a key player in the bands of Joshua Redman, Gerald Clayton, Kendrick Scott, Ben Wendel, and Charles Lloyd, among others, in recent years. His playing is characterized by extraordinary musicality, instrumental freedom, and a comfortable command of virtually every style of modern jazz. Sanders and Pukl’s collaboration dates back more than a decade; their joint projects and recordings have elevated their partnership to one of the strongest creative collaborations in contemporary jazz. Gregory Hutchinson will be behind the drums; many simply consider him one of the best jazz drummers of his generation. Throughout his career, he has played alongside legends such as Betty Carter, Roy Hargrove, Ray Brown, Joshua Redman, and Wynton Mar
