Sophie spends her busy weekdays working at the hat shop she inherited from her father. Despite her young age, she rarely allows herself to go to the nearby town for a bit of fun; but during one of her outings, she meets Howl, the incredibly charming wizard. Misunderstanding their relationship, the jealous Witch of the Wasteland casts a terrible curse on Sophie, transforming her into a 90-year-old woman. Completely devastated, the girl flees into the wastelands until she stumbles upon Howl’s wandering castle by chance. Concealing her true identity, she gets a job as a cleaning lady in the castle. This mysterious and energetic woman soon breathes new life into the rooms of the ancient castle, inhabited only by Markl, the wizard’s fluffy-bearded apprentice, and Calcifer, the fire demon who manages the house. This is the place where Sophie can finally unleash her talents and perform extraordinary miracles. Her shared story with Howl may be just beginning.
