Schubert: Winterreise Through Women's Eyes – Emőke Baráth & Anastasia Razvalyaeva

Franz Schubert’s monumental song cycle Winterreise is among the absolute pinnacles of European culture. Now, performed by Emőke Baráth and Anasztázia Razvaljajeva, it will offer us a chance to experience the work in an unconventional way: Schubert originally wrote the cycle for male voice and piano, but here we will hear a female voice, while the piano accompaniment is replaced by the harp. It is precisely this new sound, however, that reveals just how universal Schubert’s themes are. The protagonist of the song cycle is constantly on the move, but this journey in fact leads ever further inward: the outer landscape gradually becomes an inner world of memory and the unconscious.
