Beatrix Trisha Simkó - Zoltán Grecsó: #Orpheus#Eurydice 10th Anniversary Festival
Beatrix Trisha Simkó and Zoltán Grecsó’s choreography #Orpheus#Eurydice returns to the MU Theatre on 9–10 October, this time accompanied by anniversary events. Alongside the 10-year-old performance, the audience can look forward to workshops, an exhibition, a film screening, a meet-the-artists session and a party.
Since its premiere at the Vígszínház in October 2016, the piece has been performed more than 50 times in New York and seven European countries, and in 2018 it won the grand prize at the Veszprém Dance Festival.

Eurydice is now banished to the hell of our contemporary world. Naturally, her lover, the famous bard of Greek mythology, follows her here too; yet although Orpheus can even understand the language of animals, this world remains incomprehensible to him, and the inventor of the lyre becomes both clueless and helpless – he lacks the strength to challenge the 21st-century worldview.
He tries to adapt to Eurydice’s new tastes. Yet Orpheus is unable to deny his true self: his inner rhythm – entirely different from that of his beloved, and fundamentally slower – finds no harmony with the everyday life of his transformed love. Their love, believed to be immortal and capable of even surviving death, is now in peril. That blissful, ageless slowness becomes incomprehensible amidst the transience and haste of the present.
The dance duet portrays the tension between the world of myth and the realities of today, yet in its drama it goes far beyond this, as it also demythologises its heroes. Orpheus and Eurydice now do not have to contend with gigantic adversaries such as Death. Their struggle will be an inglorious yet gruelling one, brought about by everyday life, change and differing worldviews.
Beatrix Simkó and Zoltán Grecsó bring the wealth of experience gained from their many years of collaboration to bear in their duo performance, set against Dániel Dömölky’s minimalist visual and set design, and within the atmosphere created by sound designer Ábris Gryllus.
