Biography
The singer’s career began in 1994 when he founded his first band, Lareine, which was followed in 2007 by Versailles after the short-lived New Sodmy. The French Baroque era had already had a major influence on Lareine, both in terms of appearance and themes, but this influence came to full fruition during the Versailles era, which shifted toward power metal after the band’s earlier, more melodic rock sound, with themes supplemented by a touch of vampire-inspired elements. Versailles went on hiatus at the end of 2012, and Kamijo launched his solo career the following year, which stylistically served as a synthesis of the unique soundscapes from his career up to that point. Among his solo songs, one can find the more playful, baroque rock style of Lareine, the epic metal characteristic of Versailles, and the more modern sound of New Sodmy.
Since then, he has released two mini-albums and three full-length albums, and now he is coming to Budapest with material from Masterpiece, a compilation released last year that summarizes his body of work to date. Kamijo first visited Budapest in 2010 as the frontman of Versailles, followed by a solo visit in 2024; fortunately, however, we won’t have to wait that long this time, and in early October, on the Analog stage, we’ll once again be able to see for ourselves that it’s no coincidence he’s become a cult favorite over the years.
