PeruJazz is one of the leading ensembles in contemporary Peruvian music. They have played a pioneering role in blending jazz with Peru’s coastal, Andean, and Amazonian musical traditions, thereby creating a unique musical language in which improvisation, heritage, and modernity come together naturally. Their sound blends ancient instruments—such as the quena, the zampoña, and the cajón—with the saxophone, electric bass, drums, and contemporary musical textures. The result is a sophisticated, deeply rooted, yet unmistakably Peruvian musical sound.
Since the 1980s, Perujazz has been one of the leading representatives of Peruvian music and has carved out a solid place for itself on the international jazz and world music scene. The Afro-Peruvian rhythmic foundations—which practically compel you to move—the melodic lines open to improvisation, the deep resonance of the cajón, the pulsating swing of the bass and drums, and the expressive power of the saxophone all come together to create a sound that is at once contemporary, ancient, and unmistakably unique. Perujazz showcases the contemporary face of Peru: ethnic roots intertwine with modern technique, and ancient tradition enters into a dialogue with sophistication. Their music takes the listener on a journey through Peru’s diverse landscapes and unveils a soundscape that represents the country today—a nation with a cultural heritage spanning thousands of years, which, like Perujazz’s music, speaks a universal language.
The concert is presented in collaboration with the Embassy of Peru in Hungary.
