Girls from Vojvodina
Szabó Margit
Born in 1998 in Horgoš, Vojvodina. Her works resemble family heirlooms—nostalgic atmospheres drawn from memories of photo albums taken off a grandmother’s shelf. Through the shaping of clothing and hairstyles, and the patterns of wallpaper on the walls, we are reminded of the simple everyday life of the 1970s, now almost overly romanticized through CMYK printing tones. Her visual language reflects memories of a modest rural world transformed into a youthful, colorful, and rich reality. She uses loose brushwork, rough pastel and oil crayon gestures, a retro color palette, and the sharp light–shadow contrast of flash photography.
Szabó Franciska
Born in 2001 in Horgoš, Vojvodina. Her work focuses on the dialogue between space and community. The figures remain anonymous, and the street scenes feel natural rather than staged. Cimó creates a harmonious visual world, contrasting textured, sketch-like technical solutions with a calm, precise execution that soothes both eye and mind. There is no noise or tension—the scenes feel as natural as frames from a carefully composed film.
The sister duo’s work is connected by nostalgic storytelling and depictions of social and intimate moments, in which we can all find a familiar, home-evoking feeling.
