Ikebana is a traditional Japanese flower art. Unlike European practice, it works with brush-like lines and empty space instead of colors and weight; it is characterized by dynamic balance of asymmetry instead of symmetry. It is restrained in its colors, treats plants with great imagination and usually has a strong effect with little material. It can be linked to both the closeness to nature and Buddhism of the ancient Japanese shinto religion.
