Signs of the Swarm Brings a True Deathcore Festival to the A38 Ship

Pittsburgh-based Signs of the Swarm is one of the most exciting and relentless bands in contemporary deathcore. Their music blends modern metal grooves with technical riffs and surprisingly catchy choruses, and soon Hungarian audiences will be able to experience this live on February 19 at the A38 Ship, alongside ten56., Oceans Ate Alaska, and Face Yourself.

Since its debut in 2014, Signs of the Swarm has gradually built its reputation on the international extreme metal scene. The quartet—comprising vocalist David Simonich, drummer and songwriter Bobby Crow, guitarist and vocalist Carl Schulz, and bassist Michael Cassese—has now far surpassed the familiar conventions of deathcore: their songs are at once brutal, groovy, and melodic.

Their sixth studio album, *To Rid Myself of Truth*, is one of the band’s most personal and heavy works to date. The album was produced by Josh Schroeder, who has also worked on albums by Lorna Shore, Mental Cruelty, and King 810, among others. The album also bears the influence of Meshuggah, Gojira, and Fear Factory—the very bands they grew up listening to.

The songs are intense not only musically. Simonich writes openly about his struggle with addiction, while the song “Clouded Retinas” deals with Stargardt’s disease, a condition that is gradually destroying his vision. In addition to personal themes, the album also addresses social issues: “Natural Selection” reflects on the current political climate, while “Fear & Judgment” takes aim at prejudice.

In recent years, the band has played to increasingly larger audiences in both North America and Europe, sharing the stage with acts such as Lorna Shore, Fit For An Autopsy, Whitechapel, Thy Art Is Murder, Suicide Silence, and Carnifex. Now they’re returning to Budapest with their own raw, elemental live energy, joined by such spectacular bands as ten56., Oceans Ate Alaska, and Face Yourself. This lineup guarantees a heavy night of deathcore and modern metal.

Ticket sales for the concert begin on September 10 at 11:00 a.m. on the www.livenation.hu and www.funcode.hu websites.

Location

A38 Ship

Converted from a coal-mining ship, the A38 is easily Budapest's most unique concert venue. The belly of the ship has been home to a wide range of live and electronic music for almost 20 years, and when it's full you can feel the rhythmic movement of the partygoers making waves in the Danube. Foreign acts often refer to it afterwards as their favourite club.
