Kettős játszma │ Double Game - Ács Kinga-Noémi egyéni kiállítása

Our relationships are shaped by culturally inherited roles, social expectations, and patterns of behaviour that we often repeat without even noticing. As the winner of the main prize at Kastner Kommunity’s Art Open in 2025, Kinga-Noémi Ács presents her latest works in her exhibition Double Game, examining these mechanisms from a female perspective through the dynamics of female and male roles and intimacy.

At the centre of the project is the familiar archetype of the “player”, in which ideas of freedom, conquest, and achievement converge. Rather than approaching this figure as a character flaw, the artist sees it as a learned role, which comes with expectations and consequences that shape the positions of both men and women within relationships.

The exhibition uses the language of games and sport as a model for these dynamics. Scoring and losing points, strategy and competition, obstacles, rules, and opposing sides evoke a situation in which intimacy can easily become a matter of performance, while the other person can turn into a teammate, an opponent to outmanoeuvre, or even a “trophy” to be won. The metaphor of the game also points to the fact that we often operate in our relationships based on learned rules, roles, and strategies — yet these patterns can not only be reproduced, but also recognised, reshaped, or even rewritten.

The exhibition explores how collective patterns become embedded in our most personal relationships. Where does the boundary lie between freedom and irresponsibility, adaptation and self-abandonment, play and manipulation? And if we recognise the roles according to which we play, are we capable of rewriting the rules?

Kinga-Noémi Ács was born in 1997 in Miercurea Ciuc (Csíkszereda), Romania, and currently lives and works in Budapest. She holds a degree from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts and spent one year studying at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma. During her university studies, she was twice awarded the New National Excellence Program research scholarship. In 2018, she received an award at the Graphic Art Biennial of Szeklerland, and in 2019, she was awarded the László Csomor Prize.

Since 2017, she has participated in national and international exhibitions and biennials, including the DAK’ART Biennale in Dakar, Senegal, and ReA! Art Fair in Milan. Her recent projects include the duo exhibition Fortuna Burns with Martha Kicsiny at the Molnár Ani Gallery – am projects, as well as her participation in the Gauder Art Residency Program in Marrakech in 2026. In 2025, she received a Creative Grant from the National Cultural Fund of Hungary. She has been a member of the Studio of Young Artists Association (FKSE) since 2022, and her works are held in several private collections.

Her artistic practice encompasses spatial installations, objects, and interactive environments. Through themes of femininity, she explores questions of identity, desire, social structures, and patterns, often through playful, symbolic, and multisensory forms.
