ÁR - TÉR SZÍNHÁZI ESTÉK || KELETI NYITÁS
Three actors, a thousand years of history, a struggling cooperative – *The Opening of the East* is coming to Marx Square Pub

Schedule
On June 15, a special theatrical experience awaits the audience at the Marx Square Pub in the heart of downtown. On this evening, laughter and self-reflection go hand in hand. The guest of the ÁR–TÉR Theater Nights this time is *Keleti nyitás* (Eastern Opening), Tamás Dömötör’s cooperative comedy, based on István Tasnádi’s work Bábelna.
The play is at once an absurd comedy, a social satire, and a distorted mirror. The story takes place in a declining timber cooperative, where an Azerbaijani investor arrives with new hopes, new workers, and new questions. The locals protest, tensions rise, while an enthusiastic HR manager tries to convince the community, with the help of a peculiar “cultural gift basket,” that openness and acceptance have always been part of Hungarian history.
What makes this production unique is that Szabolcs Thuróczy, László Katona, and Kristóf Pajor, slipping into the roles of countless characters, guide the audience through a thousand years of Hungarian history. Behind the humor, irony, and acting feats, however, lie very timely questions about identity, community, prejudice, and coexistence.
The performance by Palazzo Permanens and Éjszakai Színház does not offer ready-made answers, but invites reflection—all with entertaining, lively, and often distinctly liberating humor.
