Wagner Days in Budapest 2026

A double helping of the Ring to mark a double anniversary: we are celebrating two significant Wagnerian milestones at the Budapest Wagner Festival in 2026. It has been 150 years since the entire Ring tetralogy was first heard at the Bayreuth Festival – and with a Hungarian, János Richter, conducting – and visitors to the festival at Müpa Budapest have been enjoying the incomparable atmosphere of Hungary’s Wagner fiesta for 20 years.

Schedule

The Budapest Wagner Days launched in 2006 with a performance of Parsifal, so it is no coincidence that the work will open the anniversary event two decades later – and with an all-star cast to boot. For the monumental undertaking of The Ring of the Nibelung – once again performed according to Hartmut Schörghofer’s excellent direction – an era also comes to an end, as this will be the last time Ádám Fischer conducts the Ring cycle at Müpa. As usual, the most celebrated opera stars, from Tomasz Konieczny to Magdalena Anna Hofmann and Jürgen Sacher, will take their turns on the stage. Last but not least, the enchanting Finnish soprano Camilla Nylund will select from tunes by Wagner, Richard Strauss, Berg, Dvořák and Jean Sibelius alongside one of the world’s most outstanding piano accompanists, Helmut Deutsch.
